Using an annual pass
Who it covers
All valid America the Beautiful passes and park-specific annual passes cover entrance fees and nonresident fees for the pass holder and passengers in a private vehicle. The holder must be there.
Where a park charges per person, one pass covers the holder plus three more adults.
At the gate
Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable, and the holder must show valid photo ID with the pass.
The pass is tied to the person who holds it, not to a car. If the holder isn't in the vehicle, the pass doesn't cover the others.
How long it lasts
Annual passes are valid for one full year from the month of purchase.
What it doesn't cover
Passes cover entrance and standard day-use fees. Reservations, camping and concession fees are separate.
Passes for specific groups
U.S. citizens and permanent residents aged 62 or older can buy a senior pass: $20 for a year or $80 for life.
Current U.S. military members and their dependents get a free annual pass. U.S. veterans and Gold Star Family members get a free lifetime pass.
U.S. citizens and residents with a permanent disability get a free Access pass.
U.S. 4th graders (or the home-school equivalent) get a free pass through Every Kid Outdoors. Some sites may not accept the printed paper pass, so call ahead.
A pass covers one private vehicle, or two motorcycles, or the holder plus three adults where fees are per person. Each car needs its own pass and its own pass holder.
